Barings Corporate Investors Reports Preliminary Fourth Quarter 2022 Results
The Board of Trustees of Barings Corporate Investors (NYSE: MCI) (the "Trust") met on February 27, 2023 and would like to report its preliminary financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Key Highlights:
Commenting on the quarter, Christina Emery, President, stated, "During the fourth quarter, Barings continued to drive origination flow into quality, 1st lien senior secured middle-market investments. When constructing portfolios, we focus on investing in high-quality businesses that are leaders in their space and offer defensive characteristics that will allow them to perform through economic cycles. The increase in net investment income is a function of both the sound credit quality of the portfolio and rising base rates.”
During the three months ended December 31, 2022, the Trust reported total investment income of $8.4 million, net investment income of $5.9 million, or $0.29 per share, and a net increase in net assets resulting from operations of $6.5 million, or $0.32 per share.
Net asset value ("NAV") per share as of December 31, 2022, was $16.37, as compared to $16.59 as of September 30, 2022. The decrease in NAV per share was primarily attributable to net unrealized depreciation on the Trust’s investment portfolio of approximately $0.01 per share and the payment of a $0.26 per share dividend on November 18, 2022 and the declaration of a $0.28 per share dividend which was paid on January 20, 2023, partially offset by net realized gains of approximately $0.04 per share.
Recent Portfolio Activity
During the three months ended December 31, 2022, the Trust made seven new investments totaling $4.8 million and 17 add-on investments in existing portfolio companies totaling $3.1 million. During the three months ended December 31, 2022, the Trust had one loan repaid at par totaling $2.2 million, one mezzanine debt investment repaid at par totaling $3.1 million and realized one equity investment totaling $1.2 million for a realized gain of $0.7 million, or approximately $0.03 per share.
Liquidity and Capitalization
As of December 31, 2022, the Trust had cash of $13.2 million and $46.0 million of borrowings outstanding. The Trust had unfunded commitments of $18.7 million as of December 31, 2022.
Net Capital Gains
The Trust realized net capital gains of $762,947 or $0.04 per share during the quarter ended December 31, 2022, which resulted in realized net capital losses for the year ended December 31, 2022, of $689,783 or $0.03 per share. By comparison, for the year ended December 31, 2021, the Trust realized net capital gains of $10,618,302 or $0.52 per share. During the quarter ended September 30, 2022, the Trust realized net capital losses of $2,075,839 or $0.10 per share.
The Trust’s annual shareholders' meeting will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Shareholders of record at the close of business on March 21, 2023, will be entitled to vote at the meeting.
